What Makes Japanese Laugh? — Characteristics of Japanese Comedy

【Dear Jim Jefferies】
Hi Jim. Thank you for having me on the show the other day in Tokyo. I don’t know when and how I’m gonna show up actually, but it was a great experience to be on a foreign TV show. It was actually my first time.

But Jim, your advice,
I mean, come on..

Pretty much every western person I asked for advice about ANYTHING says ‘Confidence’ is important.
Every time I hear that, I honestly think it’s a very vague advice. Could you be more specific?

Jim,
I don’t think you understand where I’m coming from. I’m not even trying to ‘say’ something funny. Since I don’t have enough English vocabulary, it’s just too difficult for me to make my foreign audience laugh ‘by words’ like stand-up comedians. I wanted you to teach me how I could ‘look’ funny for western people.

The harder I try to be funny, the more cringe I just become..
I really don’t know what to do to make my foreign audience laugh.

I gotta find a different way. I don’t have a choice, but I have to rely on ‘non-verbal’ comedy and need to know more about western culture.

Anyway, thank you for being on my channel, Jim.
It was pleasure and honored to meet a world-class talented comedian like you. You’re my very first western celebrity I’ve ever met in my life.

If I ever go to Australia some day, it’d be nice to drink together.
Hope you enjoyed Japan a lot.
