Vadivelu is an Indian film actor, comedian and playback singer. Since the 1990s, he performed supporting roles as a comedian in Tamil films and is renowned for his slapstick comedies. While having worked in over 200 films, Vadivelu received awards in the Best Comedian category for his performances in Kaalam Maari Pochu (1996), Vetri Kodi Kattu (2000), Thavasi (2001), Chandramukhi (2005), Imsai Arasan 23m Pulikesi (2006), Marudhamalai (2007) and Kathavarayan (2008). His popularity led to his media-coined nickname, Vaigai Puyal, meaning «the storm from the Vaigai River[2] which flows through his hometown Madurai.
Subramani Karuppaiya (born 25 May 1939), known by his stage name Goundamani, is an Indian film actor and comedian. He is better known for his comic duo partnership in Tamil films with fellow actor Senthil. Eventually he was called as Goundamani for his ability to give counter dialogues on the spot and off the script (as a warning to his co artiste to be prepared) on stage and during shooting as per Bhagyaraj who was writing scripts and title credits for Bharathiraja in his early days during the movie 16 Vayathinile. Till date he has acted over 310 films approximately.
He ran away from his village at the age 13 due to his father’s scoldings.[10] He first worked in an oil mart, then in a private wine shop as a waiter and then landed up in drama where he started developing his skills. His first film was Ithikkara Pakki (1980).[11] He slowly entered the Tamil film industry in small characters and finally landed in a good role in the film Malayoor Mambattiyan. He has acted in many popular films with several of the leading actors and comedians in the south Indian cine industry. He usually appears in films with Goundamani in a slapstick double act. Together they have formed a comic pair in many Tamil films and was known as the Laurel and hardy of Tamil Cinema.[12] Recently, Senthil has started acting in Tamil tele-serials.
