I tried to trim the fat on this top ten and keep it all down to the fun stuff. I just noticed one of my old top tens is over 50 minutes long? WHAT. So rather than go into the mentality of making this video a collection of mini compilations, which are in most cases worse versions of videos I’ve already done, I tried to make it a collection of mini trailers for the series that tell a story or get over a certain vibe.
This may be shorter in length that the other list videos I’ve done but believe me it was at least twice the work. I don’t even want to think about how much time I spent on this. man I hope people like it…
NOTES ON VOTES
(spoilers if you haven’t watched the video yet!)
— this was by far the biggest voter turnout, thank you to everyone who voted through either Youtube or Reddit!
— TECHNICALLY Super Mario Sunshine was #10, but Shovel Knight Co-Op was a handful of votes behind it. I realised a lot of the people who were voting «Shovel Knight» were probably thinking of the co-op series anyway, so I made the decision to combine the votes from the three Shovel Knights (95% of them were for co-op) to get some new blood on the list.
— without combining the votes Grump’s Dream Course would have still been #3 on the list and Kirby’s Dream Course wouldn’t have made it on at all. Most people were voting with the assumption they were the same series so I included them together but it didn’t really factor the outcome of the top ten at all.
— Doki Doki won very comfortably and by a larger margin than Pokémon did on the 2016 list. It’ll be interesting to see if its popularity holds in the future.
— Paper Mario is one of longest running and most requested series in Grump history, ran all the way through 2017 and only recently finished…yet didn’t make the top 15. Hmmm…
— over 120 series got at least one vote
— combining votes for all games the most popular franchise with Grump fans is Mario (just counting platformers), with Sonic a close second following by Zelda then Kirby.
