The finale of Peter Kay’s Car Share will air later tonight and fans are desperate to hear whether John and Kayleigh end up together. The viewers are gearing up for some hilarious jokes between the two lovebirds in the hope they might get together, but how do they actually film in that little Fiat 500.It turns out the car is rigged with five cameras, four mics and a secret speaking for bosses to issue driving directions to Peter so he can turn the wheel around the streets of Bolton. The technical feat is rather something and the brainchild of some amazing engineers, led by producer Martin Riley of Lion Eyes TV.Martin told BroadcastNow : «I’ve been involved with the build of a number of bespoke rigs over the yehars and a couple of reality dtyle shows based in cars and taxis, but nothing quite like this one.»Put simply, we were tasked with filming two people in a car and the real challenge was making what is a very complicated rig feel simple and effortless in the final programme.» The incredible rig took four months to build, which included three months of testing camera and four weeks of refining all the other equipment. The car was towed by a scanner truck which controlled all of the recording equipment to cope with the weather and lighting conditions surrounding the car.Plus, Peter and co-star Sian Gibson could check over all the shots using a monitor behind the gear stick.Fans begged for Peter to write a new ending for the series after Kayleigh left John in the car and walked off, angry that he didn’t seem sure whether they should be together. Some viewers even started a petition to demand another ending, so another was conceived and Peter hosted a charity screening to show the final episodes, one of which was entirely improvised.
